Silex middle school athletes-if you are playing basketball or cheerleading you need to get a practice card from the office. You need a current physical on file, they are good for 2 years. If you are new to playing a sport you will also need to grab a random drug testing form and a code of conduct form from the office and fill it out as well.
Even if you are currently playing a sport you need a practice card turned in. Remember no practice card means no practice and 14 practices are needed to be eligible to play. All middle school practices start next week! If you are currently playing softball or running cross country those practices count toward your winter sport eligibility. All forms need to be turned into Coach Evans ASAP. If you have any questions call the school and ask for me or send me an email at eevans@silex.k12.mo.us

Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s)
I just wanted to make you aware that the health department stopped by the Silex R-1 School District this afternoon. They made district personnel aware that the levels of contaminate in the Silex city water is not safe to ingest for anyone.
Beginning tomorrow, we will make a few changes to keep our students and staff safe. Student drinking fountains will be shut off until water levels are safe enough to drink. Students should bring their own water bottle/jug unless the household has Silex city water. If your student is in town and your house is on city water please know that the level of the contaminants are elevated to the point they are not safe to drink. The health department said that boiling will not relieve the water from the contaminate. However, the health department said that washing hands and showering is okay.
The school district will attempt to go on as usual, and we are making necessary arrangements in the cafeteria. We will be using paper/styrofoam plates for the time being. We are bringing in big bottles of water to clean the dishes. We also will be bringing in bottles of water for students to drink.
I will be heading to SAMs Club tonight to purchase water for drinking. I have also reached out to several plumbing companies before they closed for the business day to try to come up with a solution for a temporary fix until the City of Silex fixes the contaminated water issue.
Our number one priority is the safety of our students. We will monitor the situation closely and stay in contact with the health department until the issue is resolved.

We hope to see you there!
