January 22, 2026
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I am reaching out to notify you that a band of winter weather is expected to impact our area beginning Friday, January 23, 2026.
Forecasts indicate extremely cold temperatures on Friday morning. Out of an abundance of caution, if your student is standing at a bus stop, please ensure they are dressed appropriately and have as much exposed skin covered as possible to protect against the cold. Currently, we are still planning on hosting the youth basketball league Friday, January 23 in the evening.
Looking ahead to the weekend, our area is on the edge of a potential snowfall event on Saturday, with forecasts indicating the possibility of significant accumulation. Due to these conditions, all elementary athletic teams will not have practice at Silex Saturday and Sunday. Campus will also be closed on Saturday, January 24.
A determination regarding high school practices for Sunday afternoon, January 25, will be made on Sunday morning based on weather and travel conditions. Any updates related to high school activities will be communicated through our Activities Director and shared out through our coaches.
As always, our top priority is student safety—both in regard to cold temperatures and safe travel to and from school and activities. Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we monitor these conditions closely.
Sincerely,
Nick Heggemann
Superintendent
Silex R-1 School District
