Senate Bill 68, which was signed into law, July 9, 2025, has made changes to cell phone use in schools. Students will not be allowed to display or use cell phones and other electronic personal communication devices during the school day. Electronic personal communication devices are defined as devices used to initiate, receive, store, or view communication, information, images, or data electronically. This applies to cell phones, tablets, and wireless earbuds. Electronic devices will be permitted in the morning prior to first hour. No devices should be visible throughout the school day, this will begin at 7:50 AM and end at 3:35 PM. Students will be asked to take their electronic device to the office if it is seen during the school day. If a student refuses to hand over their device, parents or guardians will be contacted to pick up the device or their student. Any unauthorized use will result in consequences outlined in the student handbooks of each building.


Use, display, or activation of these items will result in consequences from among the following: Verbal warning, detention, confiscation of the device for a limited time period, parent notification, counseling, In-school suspension, or other appropriate consequences at the principal’s discretion. An example might look like the following:


1st Violation: Confiscation and return at the end of the day.  Must check in the phone to the HS office for the next 8 school days.

2nd Violation: (1 day) In-School Suspension, phone confiscated and returned to student. Must check in the phone to the HS office for the next 16 school days.

3rd Violation: (2 days) In-School Suspension, phone confiscated and returned to parent. Must check in the phone to the HS office for the next 24 school days.

Repeated Offenses: Saturday Detention, loss of privileges, ISS, OSS; Principal discretion.  Must check in the phone to the HS office for the remainder of the school year.
