Just 2 months after the Silex R-1 School District voters approved a $5,000,000 NO tax increase bond issue, a groundbreaking ceremony for the new classrooms was held on June 3, 2021, at the Silex campus. The bond issue will fund 6 additional classrooms, upgrade the interior lights to LED lighting, install new interior doors in the elementary, renovate the Old Gym, build a new maintenance/storage shed, install new drainage systems, upgrade the baseball field, install exterior lighting to the parking lots to improve the safety of our students & staff and pave the parking lots & driveways.
Construction crews have already begun renovating the Old Gym, the new interior lighting is almost complete and work has begun on the new maintenance/storage building.
Superintendent, Rod Hamlett says “It is exciting to see the progress that is being made thus far. We are so thankful to the community for voting to approve these projects as we look to continue the success of the Silex R-I School District. All of the projects continue to move along on time and on budget.”
The engineering company in charge of the project is GRP Wegman.
