Silex R-I strives to achieve a balance –both as a warm, friendly, and welcoming environment and at the same time, one that is safe and secure for our students and all who use our building. This details the procedures that will be used to protect our kids, our people and our facility by controlling who enters and leaves the building.

The main high school and elementary entrances will be the points of entry and exit to the building during normal operating hours. School doors will open at 7:00 a.m. and will close at 8:03 a.m. and open at 2:53 p.m. and close at 5:00 p.m. If parents arrive prior to 2:53 pick up their child, they need to sign the child out through the office and it is recorded in the child’s attendance record (please refer to student handbook). The office reception area is positioned so all entrants must pass through this area. The office personnel will have the responsibility for screening and granting access to all building entrants. Anyone entering the building should immediately feel both a sense of welcome and security. The building restrooms, service areas or other amenities will not be accessible without passing through the office area.

All other doors will only be used for emergency exits. Exterior doors are not propped open for any reason which may allow outsiders access into the building.

After doors close, parents must buzz in at the main entry doors. Press 1 to access the high school office. Press 2 to access the elementary office. The office personnel will greet parents and ask appropriate questions about the parent’s destination. At times, the office personnel may contact administrators to verify that the visitor is welcomed before permitting the visitor access to the premises. Before being permitted access to the premises, all parents and visitors must sign in with the office.

Patrons wishing to use the facility after operating hours must complete a facility use agreement. The agreement can be obtained in the high school office.

Any staff member expecting a visitor should notify the office before the visitor’s arrival. Visitors must buzz in at the main entry doors. The office personnel will contact the staff person being visited to verify that the visitor is welcomed and expected before permitting the visitor access to the premises. Before being permitted access to the premises, all visitors must sign in and sign out with the office when leaving. Visitors must display a visitor badge or visitor lanyard.

All vendors and service companies must provide proper business-specific identification. Office personnel will require proper identification from the visiting service personnel. The office should be made aware of expected vendors or service visits. Any service personnel permitted access to the premises must sign in and out with the visitor log.
