Promotion Evening Events

All 8^th graders need to be in the high school library at 6:30pm on Thursday, May 17, 2012. Promotion will begin at 7pm. There will be no dance this year since the 8^th grade class has decided to take a class field trip to Incredible Pizza. There will be practice on Wednesday May, 16, 2012, so everyone knows what will happen during promotion. Please note, th is is a promotion ceremony. Promotion will not be official until grades are confirmed on May 21st with the student passing all classes. If a student fails a class they will be required to attend summer school to be promoted to 9^th grade.

Promotion Dress Guidelines

Young ladies are encouraged to wear dressy attire (no formal wear).  Dresses or skirts must be modest and not too short.  Clothing is not to be low cut, backless or transparent.  No midriffs may show. No Jeans.

Young men are to wear either a long or short-sleeved shirt with a collar, and a tie is optional.  Slacks or dress pants are also required no shorts.  Chains, long belts and saggy/baggy pants are not permitted. No Jeans.

Students who are inappropriately dressed will not participate in the ceremony.

Additional clothing or accessories, such as purses, coats, hats, sunglasses, cameras, flowers, and yearbooks, must be left with parents. Please no limos, balloons, or other items that distract from the student's ceremony.

Dear Graduates and Parents:

This letter is to give you some information regarding graduation and preparation for the celebration of Commencement from Silex High School.

Please hang up the gown and press it to get rid of the wrinkles. Use a cool iron because the material will scorch. It is also a good idea to have hairpins to secure the cap.

We ask that the male graduates dress in a white dress shirt and tie, dress slacks and dress shoes.

We ask that the female graduates dress in a dress or skirt and blouse and dress shoes.

Graduation practice is mandatory and is held at 9:00 am Friday, May 18 in the
gymnasium.

Graduation is at 7:00 pm Friday, May 18, 2012 in the high school gymnasium. Parents will have reserved seating near the front. Graduates need to be in the library by 6:00 pm for last minute preparations and their group picture.

Please make the counselor's office aware of scholarships your student has received
outside those awarded through the school.

All class dues, lunch bills, extra curricular expenses, textbook fines, HLG textbook and tuition, and projects must be paid in full before May 18. A final bill list will be turned into the high school office on May 11 if you need to check your students account.

There is handicapped parking located in the front of the high school building. Please make sure those parking spots are available to those who need it.

On March 20, 2012, Silex R-1 was recognized and presented with the 2011-2012 Accredited with Distinction Award!

On March 9, 2012 Representative Ed Schieffer visited Silex R-I School District. This visit was not recreational but rather recognizable. Representative Schieffer stopped over to Silex to present a proclamation to the school district for Distinction in Performance for the second year in a row. He presented the resolution on the House of Representative floor, and came to Silex to honor the faculty and students who worked hard to achieve the honor. There were assemblies for both the elementary and high school students who helped achieve one of the highest honors a school can achieve in Missouri.

"Representative Schieffer recognizing the staff, students and Board of Education with the proclamation that was presented before the house was an honor. The excitement generated by the proclamation and assembles was a great kick off to this round of MAP testing," said Elaine Henderson, Superintendent.  

Working at such an honor is not a simple task it takes teachers and students working together to make the environment a better place for the district to become a success. Strength in numbers is what Silex offers their efficient size packs a punch.

"Silex excels in having parents, teachers and BOE students, and administrators working together and when we work together we are strong," said Schieffer during the assembly.

Silex R-I School District has no intention of giving up on their reputation of being a high achievement school.
